Archetypes

The characters in any allegorical story are often used to symbolise certain concepts. These may be types of people (stereotypes); a group or organisation; a part of the mind; a power or force; etc.

Below are a list of the main characters in the film and what they symbolise.

Mouse

Mouse wrote the agent training program. In it, all of the people are dressed in black, white and grey. They are dull uninteresting and many are clones of one another. Yet the girl in the red dress oozes sexuality and contains so much detail… a real labour of love (or maybe frustrated sexual desire).

Young, excitable, shy and socially awkward, Mouse is a stereotype geeky teenager. He may be brilliant, but he is unrecognised as such, instead probably finding himself labelled as ADHD. His preoccupation with the opposite sex, doesn’t help his reputation either. As we find out later, there is an ulterior motive for creating such a vivacious character in his program.
